Welcome back to all San Francisco State University students!

Our Communicative Disorder students, staff, and faculty are at it again working hard and making our department proud.  It is important we congratulate our SFSU NSSLHA chapter on receiving the silver level of recognition in ASHA’s chapter honors program.

Our chapter is very involved on campus. They support the graduate students as they prepare for their comprehensive exam by providing food and snacks the day of the test, as well as hosting a luncheon to celebrate the achievement of passing the exam. They host the Communicative Disorder graduation. NSSLHA acts as a bridge between students and faculty in order to relay information, keep everyone updated on upcoming events, and plan the annual SFSU Conference. They also organize career awareness activities to keep our students educated and up-to-date on new studies, findings, and career paths.

Not only is our chapter involved on campus, but we extend our helping hands into the community as well.  CSHA District 1 is our local chapter of the California Speech-Language Hearing Association. Our very own students have become official student board members. They are very involved and proud to represent our program and NSSLHA chapter here at SFSU.

SFSU NSSLHA also teams up with an organization based in San Francisco called Support for Families of Children with Disabilities.  Our NSSLHA chapter provides volunteers, donates money, and is always willing to help. We are also currently looking for more organizations to assist throughout the year.

As you can see, our chapter works very hard, and is very deserving of this honor. Our newly elected SFSU NSSLHA officers intend to follow in the footsteps of their predecessors. They plan to meet every qualification in order to earn the gold level of recognition for ASHA chapter honors this year. They have already begun serving their community and representing the SFSU Communication Disorders department well. They have great plans for the coming months. Be ready for an amazing video representing the 2014-2015 NSSLHA chapter and all the hard work we do. It will be coming to a blog near you!  But for now, here is a video reviewing what we have done in the last year!
